I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and currently live in Boston. I was always an avid reader and writer, and in my ten years as a high school English teacher, I did a great deal of writing. I did not start writing professionally, however, until my late wife, Kirsten, was diagnosed with breast cancer. What began as a way to tell the story of Kirsten’s treatment to friends and family became my first book, and I haven’t stopped writing since. In 2003, after Kirsten’s death, I stopped teaching to focus on writing. In 2005, I married again, and my wife, Suzanne, and I live in Boston with our three children and our dog, a boxer named Cooper.
