Isolde Lübbeke

Isolde Lubbeke's extensive research has led to discoveries of long seperated companion works and the reconstruction of dismantled altarpieces. Dr Lubbeke has identified missing portraits of husbands and wives and 'reunited' them in the catalogue, and placed panels from the collection in their original context of diptychs, triptychs, and polyptychs. Numerous comparative illustrations in monochrome help the reader to follow the argument. New light is thrown on the often controversial discussion of classification, ascription and dating by the findings of Emil Bosshard, Conservator at the Villa Favorita; infra-red reflectography is used to reveal underdrawings, and instructiive examples of these are reproduced.
