Marvin L. Astrada

Marvin Astrada is Research Scientist with the Applied Research Center at Florida International University. He holds degrees from the University of Connecticut (BA), Wesleyan University (MA, CAS), and Florida International University (MA, PhD) in political science and international relations. His present research program focuses on identifying and analyzing the strategic culture of Latin American countries for a joint US Dept of Defense-FIU socio-cultural dynamics project.  In addition, he has conducted research on security studies, US foreign policy, WMD proliferation, rogue states, and terrorism. He recently obtained a $25,000 Florida International University Fellowship to fund research on US foreign and global security policy. Astrada has presented his research at national professional conferences in the US, and teaches upper level courses in international relations of Latin America, international relations theory, and national security/strategic studies at FIU. He is actively working on two book projects:  a theoretical and empirical analysis of WMD proliferation and global security vis-à-vis North Korea, Iran, and Libya; and a strategic culture analysis of cult of personality in international relations.
