What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to sleep and lay around my house watching television in my sweats. I consume large amounts of cheesecorn at these moments and analyze the in-depth coverage of celebrity lives on E! True Hollywood marathons. I also love to hike, eat other things besides cheesecorn at the restaurant of the moment, and I love to travel to the Islands, and sometimes, Europe.
2. What kind of music do you like to listen to? Why?
There's still something called music? From the very little, I have to choose from these days, I have to say old school 80s classics, jazz, and reggae. The jazz is my most creative force, which most of my novels are written to the tune of. Just listen to Miles Davis's “Kind of Blue” when you read Use Me or LoseMe.
3. What's your all time favorite movie? Why?
Everybody who’s ever spent a day with me eventually finds out that The Best Man is my favorite movie because of Morris Chestnut's shoulders. Also, because of its emphasis on commitment and loyalty to the woman in your life.
4. What's your all time favorite novel and/or writer? Why?
Jamaica Kincaid for her style of repetition without ever being repetitive.
5.What do you like best about being a writer?
Great hours! But there's more. Being a writer allows me to turn my everyday experiences into stories that can heal, console, humor, and entertain people I would otherwise never know. It gives me a vessel to dump all my crazy imaginings without being crazy. If I ever write anything too crazy, I can always blame it on the characters. I appreciate the moments I share with my readers and learn what I do, and sometimes don't, bring to their lives. But most importantly, I can always go to a strip club and call it "research."
