Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)

A beautiful, compelling book about the fragile life cycle of the endangered sea turtle.

Praise for Into the Sea

"Let Into the Sea touch young readers with a sense of place and sensitivity for this gentle creature of the sea."
--School Library Journal, starred review

"A perfect choice for primary oceanography or endangered species units, this has a strong-enough story to use as a read-aloud as well."

"In Brenda Guiberson's sensitive hands, the story flows as freely as the currents that carry the turtle though the shallows and open seas. The variety of Alix Berenzy's pictures, from the eye-popping colors of a coral reef to the dappled light on an endless bed of grass, brings surprise with every spread"

  • Brenda Z. Guiberson has written many books for children, including Cactus Hotel, Spoonbill Swamp, Moon Bear and Disasters. As a child, Brenda never thought she wanted to be a writer—her dreams tended more toward jungle explorer. She graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in English and Fine Art. She started thinking about writing for children when her son went to elementary school, and she volunteered in his class and in the school library. After taking exciting trips that involved a fifty-foot cactus, hungry alligators and sunset-colored spoonbills, she wanted to create books for children that would be like a field trip. Her books are full of well-researched detail, and Brenda sees this research as an adventure—one that allows her to be a jungle explorer at last. She lives in Seattle, Washington. Alix Berenzy is author and illustrator of A Frog Prince, Rapunzel and Sammy. She lives in Benton, Pennsylvania.
