Picador is bringing the book club to Twitter! Tuesdays we'll announce new book club picks and give away copies to readers.
A few weeks later we'll discuss the book — authors, editors and critics will even chime in!
About the Club
We'll try and pick books for every taste and reader. And to sweeten the pot, we'll even give away copies of the book during its announcement. Of course, you can discuss the books anytime, not just on the appointed day. But if you contribute on Friday, you'll get to correspond directly with the authors and editors of the books! You can even submit questions before Friday to be addressed by the authors the day of our "discussion."
What is Twitter?
Twitter is a microblogging platform that allows you to write short updates, or "tweets" from your computer or mobile phone.Where a blog is centered on the blogger writing and people commenting, Twitter allows people to engage in quick, short bits of conversation - when you follow your friends on Twitter, you see their updates and can comment on them instantaneously. Also, you can "retweet," or forward along someone else's update to your friends. Think of it as a community of like-minded people passing back and forth opinions, links, jokes, and news items. All tweets are limited to 140 characters, the standard limit for text messaging on cell phones.
How do I join?
It's simple - if you don't already have a Twitter account, you can start one here. Then "follow" Picador here so you can hear about the upcoming announcements and discussions. We'll create special hash tags (#) to append to your tweets during the discussion. This way, you can simply search here with the hash tag to see what people are saying! It's open to all and ongoing - if you missed a recent discussion day, you can still contribute. Here are some examples of recent hash tags: the South by Southwest Festival (#sxsw) and haiku (#haiku)
