Reading as Belief advances the provocative idea that the disruptive techniques of recent innovative poetry require readers to become believers, occupying the same philosophical ground as the religious faithful. Joel Bettridge is Assistant Professor of English at Portland State University. He is the author of two books of poetry, That Abrupt Here and Presocratic Blues, and the co-editor (with Eric Selinger) of Ronald Johnson: Life and Works.
