Perhaps no writer and subject were ever better matched than Simon Winchester and the Yangtze. A resident of Hong Kong for nearly a decade, the author of well-received books on the Pacific Rim countries, and the Asia-Pacific editor for Conde Nast Traveler, Winchester is also a geologist by training, and this brings an added dimension to his descriptions, enabling him to depict the forces of nature that have shaped this powerful river and that, indeed, have shaped the very nature of China itself. Born and educated in England, Winchester has lvied in Africa, India, and Asia, and now makes his home in New York. Among his books are The Sun Never Sets and Pacific Rising.
