From the pediatrician who became an Internet sensation with the “Hamilton Hold” in a YouTube
video about how to calm a crying baby, comes a one-of-a-kind resource to guide you through the earliest moments of your child’s life—and help you to parent with common sense and confidence.

Robert C. Hamilton, M.D., has spent more than three decades caring for newborns. In his practice, Dr. Bob has seen it all—what works, what doesn’t. How can you get your baby to nurse, sleep, and maybe even cease
crying? What strategies can help you connect and communicate with your infant? What important decisions will you make during the first year for your child, yourself, and your partner?

Here, Dr. Bob shares his clear, sensible, warm advice—as well as all the latest scientific data and research—on how to:

• Offer comfort to a crying newborn using the “Hold”
• Gently teach your baby how to sleep (and get some sleep yourself)
• Establish healthy patterns
• Breastfeed, formula-feed, or bottle-feed using either
• Play!
• Manage screen time in your home
• And more to help you navigate the unforgettable first year of your child’s life.

Human life amazes me!

I have studied biochemistry, human physiology, and medicine for the past forty years. It has been my life’s work as a physician, but despite the familiarity of the subject, I continue to find...

Praise for 7 Secrets of the Newborn

“As a doctor, I have rendered intimate advice to countless numbers of parents and patients. I have seen a lot. I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t work. I’m here now to share the secrets I have learned along the way.” —Robert C. Hamilton, M.D.

"Pediatrician Hamilton offers a cheery, exuberant text intended to celebrate babies, convince readers to have babies, and educate parents about how to best negotiate and enjoy the first 12 months of a child’s life. [T]he author, a father of six and grandfather of seven, is clearly enamored by and knowledgeable about his subject. New or prospective parents may very well find his enthusiasm contagious." —Publishers Weekly

“I was an anxious new mother awaiting her interview with pediatrician Robert Hamilton, and Dr. Bob put me at ease, just as he still does today with my now-seven-year old. Reading his wisdom in this book felt like walking back in time through the first year of my daughter’s life. This is the book you didn’t know you needed until you needed it.” —Carlie Baiocchi, RNC-OB, ICCE, labor and delivery nurse and childbirth and parenting educator at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles

7 Secrets of the Newborn is a full-bloom bouquet of ‘old-time’ wisdom. Dr. Hamilton has distilled his thirty-plus years as a pediatrician into a simple and engaging book that is relevant for today’s new generation of parents.” —Robert E. Segal, cofounder of HelpGuide.org
