Frank W. Dormer

Frank Dormer graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in illustration.  He now divides his time between teaching and book illustration. He has created art for several children's books, including Socksquatch, his first book as both an author and illustrator.

Where did you grow up?

On earth.


Do you use your childhood as inspiration?

No. I usually use someone else’s childhood.


What are your hobbies and interests besides reading and books?

Eating while reading books.


Who are a couple of your favorite author/illustrators? What is it about their work that inspires and interests you?

Edmond Dulac, Serge Bloch, Russell Ayto What I like about there work is it is so much better than mine. Maybe I’ll steal their childhood.


What one or two words of advice would you give for young authors/illustrators?

Draw. Read. Then try to draw and read at the same time. When you can do both, your ready.
