Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo

Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo is Professor of Political Science at Wells College in Aurora New York. Professor Lumumba-Kasongo is the Chair of the Department of International Studies; He has served as the Chair of Pubic Affairs and the Division of Social Sciences. He is a Visiting Scholar in the Department of City and Regional at Cornell University. He also is a Research Associate at the Institut d’Ethno-Sociologie at Université de Cocody in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, an Adjunct Professor in Department of Government at Suffolk University in Boston.  Between 2003 and 2007, he served as a Visiting Research Fellow in the Centre for the Study of International Cooperation in Education (CICE) at Hiroshima University in Higashi-Hiroshima in Japan. He has served as one of the Vice Presidents of the African Association of Political Science (AAPS)—representing the Central African Region. He is the Co-Founder and Director of CEPARRED (Centre Panafricain d’Etudes et de Recherches en Relations Internationales et en Éducation pour Développement) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. His fields of teaching, research, and policy analysis include: Comparative Policy and Politics, International Relations/Politics, International Political Economy, Environmental Politics, Education, Philosophy/Ethics, Classic, Modern, and Contemporary Political Theory. He has published extensively in international relations, world and African politics, political theory, and political economy among which are listed, for instance, Who and What Govern in the World of the States: A Comparative Study of Constitutions, Citizenry, Power, and Ideology in Contemporary Politics (2005); (Ed.) Liberal Democracy and Its Critics in Africa: Political Dysfunction and the Struggle for Social Progress (2005); Political Re-mapping of Africa: Transnational Ideology and the Re-definition of Africa in World Politics (1994). He is the Editor-in-Chief of African and Asian Studies published in Leiden, the Netherlands, the Editor of the African Journal of International Affairs, and is also on the several Editorial Boards of International Journals. Professor Lumumba-Kasongo studied at Université Libre du Congo (now Universté de Kisangani) where he earned Diplôme de Licence with honors and Diplôme d’Agrégation; at Harvard University, he received a Masters degree, and at University of Chicago, he obtained a Masters degree and a Ph.D. Professor Lumumba-Kasongo also received the 2010 Distinguished Africanist Award from the New York State African Studies Association.
