The Big Time is an edgy, brilliant classic of 1950s science fiction, both reflecting the paranoia of that decade and transcending it. It is also a bravura formal performance, reflecting Leiber's background on stage and in movies: the entire novel consists exclusively of monologues and set pieces set inside small rooms, yet the story it tells encompasses the universe. It is a science fiction classic like no other.

Praise for The Big Time

"An extraordinary tour de force with no equal in the literature of science fiction."—A Reader's Guide to Science Fiction

"I most urgently recommend this book to you . . . What the entrances, performances and exits of this little mostly human troupe accomplish is a statement about all wars, and all people."—Algis Budrys
